A Note About Tea
Historically, the most controversial element of the conference has been tea. I’m not even joking.
A Note for our British Attendees
I try to have proper tea at the conference. I know Americans think Tazo and Lipton are real tea, so do not worry. I’ve been to the UK and have learned there is a whole world of real tea without abominable flavors.
We will serve propper Yorkshire Gold and we will have milk, and sugar. I regret to say the tea drinkers will be using the same disposable cups the coffee drinkers will be using.
Back at the 2024 conference, we had a former Brit who was very offended that we served Yorkshire Gold and didn’t offer proper porcelain tea cups. He was genuinely angry. The venue is not setup for porcelain tea cups.
While we drink a lot of tea in Texas, we drink it iced.
Speaking of which….
A Note for Our Southern Attendees
Austin is just outside of The South, culturally. I have a whole episode about American regional cultures if you are interested. If you are curious we are on the cultural border between Greater Appalachia and El Norte.
One big difference is that Austinites tend to drink iced tea unsweetened or lightly sweetened. If you order ice tea at a restaurant make sure to say “Sweet Tea” if the server doesn’t ask.
At past conferences, southerns were shocked that our ice tea was unsweetened. Last year we had simple syrup for sweetening it, but this year we may just break down and offer sweet tea as an option.
