A painful goodbye

I want to thank so many of you for being understanding with me during this conference. I walked past many of you a dozen times, wheeling my chair and cushion around, wiggling around to try and get comfy.

It felt good to meet kind strangers, and I must say that writers are my kind of people. Each one of you I talked to was interesting in a way I didn’t know I needed. After a year spent lying on my back and mapping my bedroom ceiling, the mass of creative humanity was a revelation for me. I don’t know if I will see any of you again, but I want to say thank you.
