Creating My personal AI Research Assistant

I love using AI for research. However, I am writing an historical novel based on oral family history and tribal records, and these AI bots have not been able to answer many of my questions. (For example: How many members of [our tribe] served in World War One?) This has me considering creating on off-line personal AI bot so I can enter all of my information (dictionaries, books, research papers, archeology finds, newspaper articles, family stories, etc., etc.) and then be able to ask a question and get a response. I have looked into this a bit and it seems do-able, once I decide on an open-source platform. 1) digitize the document if it’s not already in digital form; 2) Organize the data using SQL or similar; 3) Integrate the data into the system. It also seems extremely time consuming, especially since many of the books I have are no longer in print and not available as an e-book. I would love thoughts and comments on this hair-brained idea of mine. Is it worth pursuing??
