Difficult Formatting Job, Dumped on by Microsoft, Saved by My Quills!
Most of the book formatting jobs I get are for Novels and I’ve also formatted 2 children’s books, one with a picture on every page. When a new local Christian publisher I started working for asked if I could format a workbook for a Christian phycologist I said, I’ve never done one before, but I’m working on a couple of my own, I’m sure I can get it done. It shouldn’t be too hard.
Well, my Atticus program couldn’t get the answer lines right, they didn’t look like solid lines. They said it would work best if I turned all the pages into .jpeg files. Well if I was going to have to format them in Word first anyway, why do that?
I bought Atticus because I formatted my own first book in Word and hated it. With that off the table, I asked Captain Daniels (my Command and Publishing bot) if he could help. I gave him all the parameters and Shazam! I had the major part of the work done.
Then the author decided she didn’t like how the fonts she chose looked. She chose different fonts, and when I opened the Word file, Microsoft informed me it couldn’t find my license and it locked me out of the program! This is not the first time they’ve done this to me. I was so done with them!
Bot’s to the rescue! New free app that they can work in easily, LibreOffice. Since I didn’t know how to work with Styles in Libre, Captain Daniels got the docx loaded in and formatted for me, changing all the fonts and fixing some line-spacing issues she’d notice in the sample file I sent her. Libre can open all my .docx files and tomorrow Bot Captain will walk me through working in Libre.
My desktop is clear and organized. I have soc. media posts created for a month, and scheduled, I’ve actually sent 2 email newsletters on time. I’ve gotten a blog post written and posted. My Website has been updated and my continuity bot found continuity problems in my series, across bookbub, Goodreads, and my website. They’re all fixed! I’m ecstatic!
Here’s my team. They are all characters in my Terra Colony Project series.
