Considering Writing the Virtuous Vigilante Story

I have just finished listening to the Author Update from the weekend. I am considering writing a high-stakes Virtuous Vigilante Story that ties into the dual POV series I just finished. My question is, Jonathan mentioned that a writer who does not write from the perspective of a vigilante should not. While I have hinted at vigilante acts in my writing, I have never delved deep into the psyche. I do have a character; however, who would go there, and I am interested in going there. Should I hire a ghostwriter to help me write from more of the MMC perspective? Or is this something I can perfect by studying existing characters/narratives?
