Elements of Style and the Turnings

In the introduction, White describes Strunk as “clear, brief, bold.” Very 3rd Turning characters.

White took Strunk’s class in the middle of the 3rd turning. Strunk would have grown up during the 2nd turning, but being in academia, it’s quite possible he was ahead of his time or more readily absorbed the spirit of the age. (And Strunk would hate that sentence. Say what you mean 😀)
