The Elements of Style - Changes?
The copy of The Elements of Style that I have is the second edition. Can anyone tell me if I missed anything by reading that one rather that a later one? From a quick web search, I see that a later version includes the singular they, but I don’t plan on using that. The only thing I thought was out-of-date was his rant on the overuse of the word “update”. He obviously never had to deal with Microsoft Windows.
There were no exercises in my book. When I originally read the instructions, I thought it said to write a short story based on the book. I wondered how I would do that until I started reading. Once I was finished, I took an example sentence from each page and turned it into a story. It turned out to be a fun exercise, and it was the longest short story I’ve written at 6,700 words.
