Make School Fun Again: Help Wanted
Hey there fellow creatives, and lovers of learning. Not just any learning though. Good learning.
I'm reaching out because I need your help with something that could genuinely change how kids learn, and I think you're going to be as excited about this as I am.
The Problem We're Solving
Here's the thing - traditional lecture-based education isn't working for most kids. The research backs this up in a major way. Studies show that students in interactive learning environments score 54% higher on tests compared to passive lecture formats, with retention rates jumping from a measly 8-10% in traditional classrooms to 25-60% with interactive, personalized approaches. And get this - 95% of students report that interactive teaching increases their participation and helps them focus on key points.
But here's where it gets really interesting for us as writers: what if we could take the power of storytelling and combine it with education in a way that actually works?
What We're Building
Through Crownling Edutainment (my creative media company's education branch), we're creating an AI-powered interactive fiction platform that turns textbook content into personalized story adventures. Think of it like this: instead of a middle schooler grinding through a boring math textbook, they're solving equations to crack the code on a spaceship door in a story tailored specifically to their interests - whether that's Marvel, Star Wars, or whatever they're passionate about.
The system works like this:
We license real textbooks and have human writers (that's where you come in) break down the curriculum into essential learning objectives
We survey students about their interests and favorite stories
AI (specifically Claude Sonnet) generates personalized interactive fiction that weaves those learning objectives into engaging narratives
Human writers and teachers can go in and refine the AI's work, ensuring quality storytelling and effective teaching
Students learn by playing through stories, not suffering through lectures
Why This is Ethical AI Use (And Why Schools Need It)
I know some of you might be thinking "AI in education? Isn't that problematic?" And honestly, I get it. I've always been against using AI to write books for publication. That's not what creativity is about.
But this is different, and here's why it's actually the right way to integrate AI in schools:
We can't ignore AI anymore. It's already in schools whether we like it or not - 86% of students are already using AI tools, and 43% are using them to enhance their learning. The question isn't whether AI will be in education, but whether we'll implement it thoughtfully or let it run wild.
This approach keeps humans in control. Unlike AI that replaces teachers or does homework for students, our system uses AI as a tool supervised by real writers and educators. The AI generates the framework, but human creativity, human oversight, and human teaching remain central. Recent federal guidance on AI in education emphasizes that "AI's role should be to empower teachers, support differentiated instruction and facilitate stronger engagement" - not replace the human element.
It addresses real educational equity issues. Personalized learning through AI has been shown to reduce achievement gaps by 33% and improve pass rates dramatically (from 63% to 81% in some studies). We're not trying to replace good teaching - we're trying to give every student access to personalized learning that adapts to their needs, something that's impossible with traditional one-size-fits-all approaches.
Students actually want this. Research shows 88% of students see AI as important in learning, and 75% of students in personalized learning programs are motivated compared to just 30% in traditional classrooms. When education feels like play, kids actually want to learn.
Our Bigger Vision
This first project is just the beginning. Our end goal is to create a complete ecosystem that:
Promotes actual reading and develops a genuine love for stories
Integrates audiobooks and multiple learning modalities
Eventually moves to e-ink screen devices and purpose-built hardware to get away from the addictive blue-light screens currently dominating schools
Provides a legal, viable way to homeschool that focuses on teaching kids HOW to learn, not just WHAT to learn
Think of this as making education feel less like school and more like the immersive experiences we create as authors - but with real educational value backed by research.
The Kickstarter and Our Test
We're launching a Kickstarter on November 19th with a goal of $2,500 (yes, really - we're keeping this scrappy). That'll fund:
Building the minimum viable product
Licensing four textbooks
Running a real test with middle schoolers in a Colorado school
Comparing learning outcomes between students using our system vs. traditional lecture-based teaching
Our hypothesis? Even a 1% improvement in learning would prove this is worth pursuing. But based on the research showing 30% higher test scores in personalized learning environments, I think we're going to blow that out of the water.
How You Can Help
I'm looking for a few authors who:
Believe in ethical AI use - you understand the difference between AI replacing human creativity and AI empowering it
Want to help promote this - share it with your networks, talk about it on your platforms, help us get the word out
Are interested in helping develop the interactive fiction prompts and workflows - if you have strong story structure skills and want to help ensure the AI-generated narratives actually work as stories, we need you
See the bigger picture - this isn't just about one educational tool; it's about fundamentally rethinking how we integrate technology in schools the RIGHT way, before bad implementations poison the well
Why This Matters Now
Schools are scrambling to figure out AI policies. The federal government just released guidelines on AI in education. Teachers are overwhelmed. And kids are using AI anyway, often in ways that don't actually help them learn.
We have a narrow window to show that AI can be used to enhance education without replacing teachers, without cheating, and without losing the human element that makes learning meaningful. This is our chance to be part of the solution instead of watching the problem get worse.
The Bottom Line
I'm not asking you to write this for free or even to contribute creatively if you don't want to (though if you do, that'd be amazing). What I'm asking for is your voice, your platform, and your willingness to say "yes, this is how we should be using AI in education."
If we hit $2,500, we run the test. If the test shows even modest improvement, we scale it. And maybe - just maybe - we prove that storytellers can help fix education.
Interested? Let's talk. I'm reachable at [your contact info] and would love to hop on a call with anyone who wants to dig deeper into this.
Let's make school fun again.
Blessings;
