Best Craft Book Ever: Verb Your Enthusiasm
I realize that’s a big statement. “The Best” means it leaves the rest in the dust, right?
True, Dwight Swain’s lessons on Scene and Sequel was pretty transformative for me. (link at bottom)
And Angela Hunt’s short book on Tension from the 5YP that I finished on a train-ride today was likewise meat-and-potatoes. (link at bottom)
But the newly released Verb Your Enthusiasm by Sarah Kaufman (audiobook read by author) is par none the best book on craft anyone can read. Every author must read this.
While I’m not yet done with the audiobook, I see Sarah Kaufman’s lessons creeping into my style and craft. It’s a new view of words and how they empower your sentences.
It’s not just “about” words. It’s “HOW” words work.
I recommend the audiobook. The author’s voice reading it bolsters both the meaning and connection with the text.
