Hiring an editor to learn craft

Has anyone hired an editor to help learn craft?

As I’ve been working through some of the five year plan and really starting to enjoy writing short stories, I’ve thought that possibly hiring editors to look at my short story from developmental through line/copy editing. I think it would be a great way and a slightly inexpensive way to start to see my story from an outside perspective. Compared to starting with a novel

I’ve realized that when I’m trying to self edit my own things, even with the Patreon tools, I tend to majorly second-guess myself on everything. And I thought using a human editor that knows up front what I’m doing, may help me improve my craft faster than the fumbling I am currently doing.

Please let me know your thoughts, especially those of you who work in the editing sphere. Would this be a really weird request?

I of course would absolutely pay for the service and time!

side note: I’m not currently looking for an editor but bouncing the idea off yall if this is a good idea or not and hopefully getting some feedback from anyone who might have done it before. Thank you!
