What to put in/what to leave out…it’s a craft question…

I know this crowd is largely faith-based, as am I, and thus, I am seeking your honest input for secular, science-fiction writing…

I get blowback from readers who claim my characters aren’t “real” enough because they don’t cuss. My situations aren’t “gritty” enough, even on the battle field.

I wrote an entire blog post about this at my site, but I wonder what your thoughts are. I am embarking on another turbulent battle/war setting, and I’m starting to doubt myself.
