Thoughts on This Novel Synopsis/Concept?
The people of Hanly Village believe Alexander Warren is becoming his father: Snobby, rude, and heartless. Even Alex’s childhood friend, Beatrice, believes it. So when the Rangers of the Rose, a feared and despised group of warriors who gain mysterious abilities by pricking themselves with a thorn of the Midnight Rose, announce they are coming to Alex’s village, Alex decides to defeat them and prove to everyone (including himself) that he is nothing like his father. Alex has one big problem: he is a Ranger. Not by choice–it was a power move of his father’s. But the villagers won’t care. So Alex struggles to find a way to defeat the Rangers without compromising his secret, meaning he can’t use his abilities that would help him spy on them. If he doesn’t succeed in defeating the Rangers, they will force him to reveal himself as one of them. Not only will he be shunned for all eternity, but the villagers–and Beatrice– will still be in danger. Things get worse when Beatrice gets suspicious of him and begins following him around. But when she is discovered by one of the Rangers, Alex chooses to compromise himself in order to save her. Beatrice wastes no time in revealing his secret and Alex becomes a subject for mockery and hatred. But the Ranger’s must be defeated and if Alex is going to do it, he must trust himself to do the right thing to protect the village, instead of defining himself by the villagers’ opinions.
This is my next big writing project so I’d like the concept dialed in
Any other ideas for obstacles?
Also Beatrice has a character arc too, that’s pretty essential but Alex has the biggest arc, should I mention her arc, or no?
Also Alex’s dad is a parent who wants desperately to provide for his son… but goes about it the wrong way.
