Tips and/or book recommendations for action/ reaction scene pacing

I'm working on my first novel that's supposed to be a Christian women's fiction book club/ literary leaning style. I'm slightly horrified to discover that my first chapter is paced like an action story, according to Gemini and my husband!😅 I'm a huge fan of Francine Rivers and Sarah Damoff's styles, to give you a sense of what I'm aiming for. Deep emotional weight grounded in sensory realism, avoiding melodrama, is the prose style my story needs, but I'm having trouble accomplishing that.

We're beat over the head with the advice to “show, not tell,” but I'm only 2500 words in, and already feeling claustrophobic with all my MC's bodily functions and scenery observations, yet somehow the story is still moving too quickly. I'm honestly shocked to have this problem, because I tend to be too wordy in real life. I'd have guessed for sure that I'd end up with fluff to cut. I'm writing in close third POV, and I'm having a really hard time balancing these three things: Plot points, internal monologue/ reaction, and conveying important information without info- dumping. Obviously, this is the secret sauce of great wiring that takes lots of practice, but are there any books or tips you know of that could help me slow down my plot and deepen emotional weight, without relying on mountains of descriptors, claustrophobia- inducing levels of visceral reactions, info- dumping, or extensive scenery description?

Or is the reaction part of a scene easier to write in first person? Maybe I'm in the wrong POV. How do you decide that? I don't think I want to write in first though, because no one wants to be stuck directly in the brain fog of lyme or suicidal thoughts and behaviour that my MC deals with later.

Gemini suggested these books for my specific weaknesses:

-Technique in Fiction* by Macauley and Lanning

-The Fire in Fiction* by Donald Maass

-Intuitive Editing* by Tiffany Yates Martin

-Scene & Structure* by Jack M. Bickham

Have you read any of these? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts, or if you have any others to recommend for me! Thanks!

Quick Gemini cover (not toolbox) just for fun.
