To Swear or Not to Swear (...about Ecclesiastes)

Fellow Authors, I am going through the final edit of my book. The next step is the formatting/typesetting. But, one word in one chapter is driving me bonkers: sh*t. I use the word to describe the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible, as part of a larger chapter about how difficult/traumatic events impacted faith. On the one hand, saying that Ecclesiastes is the “sh*t happens” book of the Bible feels honest, both academically and contextually. The profanity carries the appropriate impact and weight - it’s honest. On the other hand, I don’t want to be unnecessarily offensive. What do you all think? If you don’t like it, what would you replace “sh*t” with? Here is a screenshot for just a little context

Thanks for your help, thoughts, and ideas! If needed, I can provide more context on the chapter, my target audience, or my larger theological/spiritual assertion in this chapter.
