Tried Thomas's New Cover Generator

I was having trouble with the guy who usually does my covers. He usually does an amazing job, and I’ve been really happy with his work. But… It seems he’s gotten too busy and this sideline is dwindling away. I wasn’t happy with his latest work and it seemed to be AI generated, but not even very good AI generated.

So, after much frustration, I decided to try Thomas’s tool. If my artist is going to use AI, what’s the difference? I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to come up with good enough prompts, this is all new to me!

Then I saw that he has a tool for generating a design brief for your cover artist, so I tried that first, uploaded my manuscript, and typed in the scene I wanted. The design brief it spit out was complicated and I didn't think it would work well for AI generation, so I tweaked it, but it did give me a very good place to start.

I created a scene from the brief with the color scheme the tool gave me, as the colors sounded really nice.

When the cover popped up, I was startled. It was much better than I expected, and for some reason it got the earth bag building right! Something my artist couldn’t seem to get right even when I sent him photos. But Brian (the guy on the cover) was wearing a kipa, and Brian isn’t an Orthodox Jew. Plus, the author and series titles were in the wrong spots.

I was worried that the whole picture would change if I asked for a tweak, so I told it to keep the people and background scene exactly the same, take out the kipa, and switch the author name to the bottom and the series title above the book title.

I saved the first one so I could fix it in Pixelmator Pro if the second cover changed too much. I clicked and hoped, while I got dinner started. When I checked it, it was finished and it was just what I asked for!

I’m posting both the original it gave me and the one with the changes so you can see that indeed Antonia and Brian stayed exactly the same, as well as the background scene. What do you think?
