Writing To Readers' Pain
Someone has probably brought this up before, but if you’re writing to readers’ pain, you might be able to reach more people (including those outside of your audience) if you look at your current audience’s pain and see how it relates to different people’s pain.
Try looking at the pain you want to address, seeing if you can connect it to similar pain, and then seeing if you can connect it to different pain. You’ll likely need to research different kinds of pain.
You might be surprised at the connections you find.
Once you’ve done that, decide what kinds of pain you want to write about, and do research on the pain.
Even if you know pain from experience, you should always research how other people feel about it and live with it. This may not only benefit your writing by giving you more information about your subject, but it may also benefit you and people in your audience by showing you things that may help you with your pain.
Because all pain hurts, people experiencing different kinds of pain can relate to your story, you, and other readers if they show them they all have something in common.
