A question about domain names

An acquaintance with a similar service to one I offer is letting her .org domain expire and asked if I would like it. She isn’t charging me anything for it, but I’m not sure if I want to take it because I don’t know what kind of time and money might be needed to maintain it.

I have a website in my name for my work as a writer and mention my services (as a ballroom dance teacher and marriage retreat leader) on a page of my website. What would be the potential benefits and costs of obtaining TheMarriageDance.org domain name? My acquaintance is not able to continue right now with her services but is keeping TheMarriageDance.com which, at this time, is where TheMarriageDance.org redirects to. Do I need to keep the same host she uses or would I be able to use the host I have for my author website? So many questions I have!

My husband and I lead marriage dance retreats with another couple and the husband in that couple is sort of our tech guy but doesn’t know a lot about domain names. He is calling me at 8:00 Pacific tonight to discuss it, so anything I learn before then would be most helpful.
