An Old Newbie

I’m a new author in an old body. I published my first book in 2023. It was a memoir. However, I have greater aspirations in many different genres than that for my upcoming retirement. That’s a whole sack of cats in itself.

My social writing network is pathetic, like, practically zero. Thus, I’m attending the 2025 Novel Marketing Conference. We’ll see if I can wade through the myriad of complexities it will evoke.

Thomas recommends I come with business cards. But I don’t even have a website. I’m on Facebook, but even that’s about to be overtaken by Meta, so I hear. Other than that, all I have is an email. Should I embarrass myself further by publicizing my lack of credibility?

I have a second book ready to be beta read—it’s literary fiction. Should I fork over the clams to get my own website? I’m not even sure I want this to be a business. I think I have an excellent product and would like to get it into the right hands. But is venturing into big business at my age (and total lack of business savvy) the best use of my remaining creativity?

Anyone feeling my tears on your shoulders? Or know where I should go get me to stop whining and start getting excited about my great opportunity again?
