Australian Zeitgeist
I was listening to an author update the other day, I think the one with D2D and Amazon sales numbers in the title (I’m a couple of weeks behind)
Someone asked a question about Australia and Thomas gave a bit of an answer
It was interesting to me that in that episode, there was also talk about political movements across the world rejecting globalism and becoming more tribal, etc
We just had a by-election in the federal seat I live in (It’s called Farrar) … the sitting member was a former leader of her party and had been pulling away from the right and into the centre.
She lost the leadership of the party in a spill (to a guy who wants to take the party back to the right) and then resigned. The election for her seat was won by a candidate for a firmly right (some would say far right) minor party that, among other things, has a strong stance against increased immigration.
It wasn’t just a close win, the guy got 40+ % of the primary vote (we have preferential voting) Some polls predict this party will become the next federal opposition in 2 years when there is a general election
Seems like Aussies aren’t that unique after all…
