Authors Tables Goodreads Group Legit?

Hey everyone!

I need some help with a possible scam email.

As you know, I ran a Kickstarter campaign a while back. Ever since then, I noticed my gmail junk folder has been filled with possible scam emails, some of which use my real name (Alex Russo is my Pen Name, btw, so they only could have gotten it from Kickstarter selling my data or scouring my LinkedIn page which has my real name on it).

However, one email stood out to me in particular. I got an email from an Amanda asking me if I’d be willing to engage in a discussion about my short story series The Malonic Sequence. If you haven’t been following me for some time here or on my other socials, this series is a short story serial following an “alien” invasion scenario where humans are the invaders and an alien race known as the Malonics are the invaded. Because of this unique inversion, she says that this would make a good selection for a book club/author critique group she runs on Goodreads, and wanted to ask me some questions.

Because this seemed too good to be true, I checked out the Goodreads group and her profile. I know I may be profiling when I say this, but I was a little concerned when I saw she was Nigerian, she only joined Goodreads a couple of months ago, her reading preferences are anything but the kind of things I write and seemed to contradict, and she seems to have a preference for reading indie fiction. While I do have a small presence of Substack followers in Nigeria, the email address she used was not present in my list of subscribers. Not only that, but a few of the other profiles in the group seemed fake, making me wonder if it was just a bunch of bots working together.

I just wanted to ask if anyone could help me out with this and if I should reply to this email. I’m attaching screenshots of the email I received and her profile, along with the link to the Goodreads group.

Thanks!
