Back of the Book Feedback...
I have two back cover copy options and I would love your feedback and insight. Please vote “blurb one” or “blurb two” and share any thoughts or ideas. The book is a memoir. My “Timothy” is an educated Christian who leans somewhat politically liberal, doesn’t always trust mainstream evangelicalism, and reads lots of self-help and memoir. My Timothy is a male in his early 40s, but I did not specifically write this for a guy or try to code the book as being “for men.”
Blurb 1
Born minutes apart in suburban Portland, twin brothers Matt and Seth grew up in different worlds. After a catastrophic medical accident leaves Seth unable to see, hear, or control his body, he becomes a permanent resident of a hospital for “medically fragile” children. The same accident leaves Matt terrified—and for years he does everything he can to avoid his other half. As the brothers approach different versions of adulthood, Matt makes a desperate attempt to rebuild a relationship with Seth before it's too late.
Through rooftop gardens, hospital bed conversations, a night alone in the woods, and a host of characters, Forgotten Twin is a memoir about choosing presence in the face of the things we can’t repair. It’s a sibling journey that answers difficult questions about life, faith, trauma, and the grace that sustains us along the way.
Blurb 2
Twin brothers Matt and Seth were born minutes apart, but they grew up in different worlds. After a catastrophic accident crushes part of Seth’s infant brain, he is left unable to see, hear, or control his body and becomes a permanent resident of a hospital for “medically fragile” children.
For Matt, having Seth as a twin is like having a monster as a shadow. He freezes in hospital hallways, lies to avoid visits, tries to forget about Seth, and for years does everything possible to avoid seeing his twin. As the brothers approach different versions of adulthood, Matt is pushed to face his fear and make a desperate attempt to build a relationship with Seth before it's too late.
Forgotten Twin is an unflinching memoir about the places and truths that terrify us, the courage of showing up, and the grace that sustains us along the way. With searing honesty and profound tenderness, Matthew Cox explores what it means to grieve what never was, to wrestle with a God who didn't intervene, and to discover that some relationships matter not because they make sense, but because they make us whole.
