Blurb feedback

Edited to add: I modified the second blurb to include a mention of romance, and sent that to my cover designer. Thanks for everyone who took the time to give feedback!

Thanks to my procrastination, I’m trying to decide between two versions of my back cover blurb to give to my cover designer ASAP. The first one feels a bit generic/formulaic, but maybe that’s not bad. The second one is on the shorter side, but maybe okay. Any thoughts on which one is working better? (Neither has been fully line-edited, so I’ll do that once selecting one.) Or are both bad and I should start from scratch?

(Genre is epic fantasy with a strong romantic subplot… but not quite strong enough to be romantasy.)

Version One

The Age of Silence is ending. The Age of Heroes is returning. The Age of Prophets is coming….

Captain Tieran Lillendran has been playing two sides for five long years. As trusted by the lord of the city-state Firlow as he is by his master the Raven King, his secret seems in no danger of detection.

But when Astoria Lillendra comes to Firlow as an emissary from a prestigious--and secretive--magic school, Tieran's secret becomes harder to protect. As political tensions escalate, Tieran embarks on a diplomatic mission that brings him into ever greater contact with Astoria.

His growing emotions complicate his mission, jeopardizing the secret he's worked so long to protect. But how can he stay loyal to the Raven King when it means losing everything--and everyone--he loves?

Version Two

The Age of Silence is ending. The Age of Heroes is returning. The Age of Prophets is coming….

The voice of the Eternal has been silent for three hundred years. The last of the heroes are dead and all but forgotten, and legends are all that’s left of the prophets of old.

When a mysterious old man offers a prophecy to Captain Tieran Lillendran and magic student Astoria Lillendra, it seems like the Age of Heroes might rise again. But is it possible for honor to stand against evil? Or, in the end, will the Raven King’s power bring night upon the world?
