Books Per Year
How many books should an indie publish per year?
The Novel Marketing episode entitled “Yes, YOU Can Make a Living as a Writer, Here’s How” talks about the financial pressure of publishing only one book a year - (it has to be a bestseller in order to provide a year’s income) - as opposed to publishing five or six books a year.
But in the episode “Marketing a Book Series with Kristina Stanley”, there’s a rebuttal to rapid release. Thomas and Kristina talk about the advantage of withholding the next book in a series until next year.
I felt those two statements conflicted, but I’m probably misunderstanding the topics discussed. I’m working toward publishing my first book. Now I’m wondering, “Should I or shouldn’t I have several books ready to go in my first year or two?”
Can anybody clear up what I’m fuzzy on? Or point me towards an episode where this topic is explored more? Thanks!
