Conundrum: When to Pull a Live Copy for Edits?

TLDR: How do we determine if pulling a live book is warranted and when in the process should that be done to create the least disruption of momentum?

We recently launched our second book in a collection that is Biblical amplification: Historical fiction POV and Author commentary/teaching and encouragement. We ordered 100 copies and they’re almost gone. That’s great except I’m now reading through the book (aaaagainnn) and I’m seeing so many things I’d like to (want to/need to) change.

I guess my conundrum is the momentum. *knowing when it’s necessary to pull a live, launched book and if so, when to do so to avoid losing momentum?

We have the start of a buzz going about the book, they want us to do a class on it at our local church, they’re using it for the upper grades writing classes at the church school already and people are talking about it. We’ve refilled the church bookstore copies several times and we’re about out, so we will definitely need to place another order soon.

BUT… there are some definite cringes in there that I personally would like to fix. It’s embarrassing. At least to me it is, anyway. (We worked so hard on getting it just right - and even with edits and beta readers we still missed so much.) 😩

How do y’all balance this position? Yes, it needs to be fixed up, but at what cost?

What errors or percentage of errors constitutes a need for revision?

Is there a way to “pull it” and have another round of edits and re-formatting without stopping the momentum?

Do we go ahead and order another batch of books like this? Or send everyone to Amazon (who’s copies are quite markedly ’less-than’ when compared to BV copies, btw) to order for the time being?

OR - Do we leave this one as is, do better on the next ones and just move on? Fix it later?

I will say, probably the average reader wouldn’t notice the things I’m seeing. It’s definitely “good-enough” . But is that good enough? 🤔

We MIGHT have time to fix it and get another batch in before the Spring classes start, but I’m not certain.

I keep going round and round on it - not sure what to do.

It will be costly to have it re-done and we’d both rather spend our time, effort and money on the next books coming down the pike.

But also, eeek on the cringey bits. 🫣
