Creative burnout recovery?
Does anyone have tips for recovery from creative burnout? I’ve taken a break from serious writing for several months now (I only wrote when I felt like it, which was usually about once a week; previously I had written 500-1000 words a day), and I’ve barely written at all in the last 2 months, including multi-week stretches of only occasional journaling.
So far, that break doesn’t seem to be helping, and I’m a bit concerned on the marketing side of things. I’ve been neglecting my email newsletter, in part because I don’t have any updates to share with them.
I’ve also spent a lot on publishing expenses for a novel that I’ve been unable to finish editing and publish (the original publication date was this spring). I was building some excitement for the Kickstarter for that through my newsletter this spring, but again, I’m concerned that might fizzle out since now there’s been no news on that for the last few months.
I know writing is something I want to do long-term, and ideally use as an income source (though not the sole one), so I don’t want to let my previous marketing work just wither away. At the same time, I want to be mindful of my own emotional state (this past year has been extremely challenging for me and I’m still experiencing major mental health and health issues because of that) and not push myself too hard.
Has anyone experienced something similar? What is your advice both on the marketing and mental health side of things?
