Dictation Resources-Books, Software, Training, Tips?

Hi all,

I need your guidance. I’ve been battling inflammatory arthritis (RA) since 2019 and, up till now, have been able to keep typing on my keyboard. This year, the RA has worsened and it’s become painful to use the keyboard.

I’m a full-time nonfiction writer by day and a novelist on nights and weekends. So, I “need” and want to continue writing. Can anyone direct me to resources such as:

  • Recommended dictation tools and software?

  • Books on how to switch successfully from typing to dictating your words?

  • Training courses and tips for making the transition?

My computer is a Mac, so it looks like “Dragon” won’t work on my system. I’ve experimented with the Siri dictation on my desktop and tablet, but it’s not always accurate so words get missed or garbled. Maybe that’s just a learning curve?

Also, I have this concern about privacy. I’ve read that dictation files are stored and reviewed by their respective software companies and I’m concerned about HIPAA violations (I’m a health writer) and “stolen” ideas. (OK, that last one sounds really paranoid, but hey, I thought it and it bothered me.)

Thank you, in advance, for your suggestions, guidance and help!
