Discussion: Selling Short Stories

Hello all!
I wanted to start a thread on here about getting short stories published in magazines, anthologies, and other places. I am a newer author with my first novel in revision, and I wanted to start to find opportunities to sell my short fiction, even if it’s only for 50$.

A good bit of authors I’ve listened to have talked about starting with short fiction early in their career, and obviously this aligns with the Novel Marketing method as well. But there seems to be a bit of ambiguity around how to publish short fiction without posting it to a blog or self publishing a novelette.

Other than submitting to short story contests like Reedsy, what are some other tactics to get my short fiction seen, and possibly published? Submit to individual magazines using their guidelines? Any suggestions on this topic would be very helpful to myself and others, if you have the experience! Thanks!
