Help please: Word <-> Pages - MacBook Question

My editor wants me to send her my manuscript in Word, then add comments to the Word doc.

I don’t have Microsoft Word.

I do have a MacBook, but I’m a new Mac owner and haven’t tried to use it much yet.

I’ve heard that Pages can convert to word docs and then also receive word docs WITH COMMENTS. The comments are the most important thing to me in the process.

Currently, my manuscript is on a google doc.

So: do I need to purchase Microsoft Word or can I use Pages?
