Heroes of the new zeitgeist

A lot of Thomas’s podcasts are worth listening to more than once, but I think the recent interview with Seth Sing is the first I’ve listened to back-to-back. I found it interesting, challenging, validating, inspiring, and informative. It’s cool that the kinds of heroes I enjoy reading about and aspire to write meet the needs of our current age and culture. I look forward to reading some of Seth Ring’s works. Another author I think does this well is Jonathan Moeller with is Cloak Games series. Does anyone have other suggestions?

I have a question or maybe a little pushback about Thomas’s discussion on “woke” morality vs. classical morality. Maybe I misunderstood, but I took him to say that classical morality is individual, that “your moral value come from your [individual] actions and whether they align with an absolute standard of morality.” I think this is exactly right, but isn’t there also a collective morality? This is why God’s judgment landed so heavily on Israel, so that even though folks like Daniel lived according to that absolute moral standard, they still paid the consequences of societal evil. Isn’t it also implied by Jesus in Matthew 25, when he talks about “all the nations” gathered for judgment? So it’s not that there’s a binary between individual and group morality, but there is both collective and individual absolute right and wrong? And if that’s the case, don’t we all carry responsibility for both? Or am I missing something?
