How important are book signings and live events for overall sales—asking as I might be traveling ...
A family member might be moving from Alabama to Alaska for work and, if so, would want me to join for a bit. The thought occurred to me I could get an RV and truck and travel out West and up, doing book signings at local bookstores, talks at libraries, and vending at markets along the way. (This is if they get the job—or I go anyway—and I get enough remote work to pay my way.)
Aside from a memorable trip, do you think this kind of thing would have a lasting impact on book sales? I write YA fantasy and steampunk and writing books, plus have some history and stuff of my dad’s.
I also thought (though I do not know if I have the personality and skills to pull it off), doing a little YouTube show on “writing to Alaska” talking about RV life—gluten-free cooking on a budget on the road and growing some edible plants and herbs maybe even, story ideas the experiences inspire.
Anyway, just curious how helpful, if at all, live events in various places would be.
Thanks!
