Issues with 100covers
Update: My next draft from 100 Covers is definitely moving in the right direction, so while I expect I’ll need to have more back-and-forth with my project manager than I have with other designers in the past, I’m optimistic I’ll get a good final result. And for the price, the extra communication time is worth it to me.
I just received a first draft of a cover back from 100 Covers, and I have several issues with it:
The book title is incorrect
The cover does not match my requested color scheme (warm colors instead of cool colors)
The dragon on the cover in no way matches my description (size and color are both off)
The FMC does not match my description (hairstyle and clothing are both wrong, and are both frequently mentioned in the book)
The background is incorrect (the story is set in a world of floating islands, which I specifically requested to be shown)
Does anyone have suggestions on how to proceed with this? I’ve worked with two cover designers before, and each had minor mistakes but were generally along the right track of what I wanted. This is totally off track, and the complete disregard for my directions makes me concerned that the designer wouldn’t follow my instructions for revision.
Any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated. I had purchased two e-book covers and one paperback cover designs after @Thomas Umstattd Jr. interviewed the owner of 100 Covers, so I was hoping for a good experience (and perhaps would have had one with a different designer). At the same time, I’m unsure how much of my own time I want to invest in trying to actually get a good cover out of this (especially since there reaches a point at which my time is more valuable than the money I’ve already put into this).
