Know Jennifer Lynn Barnes from OK?

Yesterday I got an email, to my author email account, from someone claiming to be Jennifer Lynn Barnes, an author from Oklahoma. I found the website for Jennifer Lynn Barnes and she does live in Oklahoma.

Only this “Jennifer” had no official email signature (like I’d expect from an author of numerous books) and the message told me I had a nice name and wanted to know where I was from. And the punctuation was slightly off, coming from an author.

I’m assuming that responding to the email (it was a gmail account) was going to get me all sorts of opportunities to provide my credit card number. Maybe promises of best-selling status on the way to draining my bank account?

I’m deleting it (the email, not the credit card 😆) but thought I’d share in case you get an email from someone claiming to be a real author. And be aware someone might be borrowing your website info. Anyone have a similar adventure?
