Launching w/ short stories v. novels

Any advice or resources regarding brand new authors launching the short stories?

I’m currently checking out Joanna Penn’s new book on short stories. And I don’t remember hearing Thomas talk much about them, though maybe one of y’all can point me in the direction of such a source.

Has anyone had experience launching as a brand new author with short stories, or heard of a successful author having done so?
