Putting your lead magnet on Amazon, pros and cons

Do y’all recommend:

1. Self-publishing your lead magnet short story, putting it on Amazon and Goodreads, trying to build reviews, maybe even creating a launch team. Basically treating its release like you would a normal book, or

2. Making it only available to newsletter subscribers, using book funnel and StoryOrigins.

As far as I can see, the plus to no 1. would be that you’d extend your reach and maybe make a couple dollars here and there. The con would be that unless you actually put as much effort into its launch as you would a full novel, you’d probably end up with only a handful of reviews, which might make you look lame. And its low sales might negatively impact you.

For context, I’m aiming to go traditionally published.

P.S. Any tips on other ways to get your lead magnet out there, other than story origins and book funnel?
