Revive A Dead Book ...

What I learned from a KDP book promotion.

After watching Thomas’ “How to revive dead book sales with promo stacking”, I decided I was a prime candidate to give it a try.  My book, Surfing in Heaven, has been out for over a year and a half, and book sales are completely flat.
Here is what I did:

·      I spent $342 for free Kindle book promotions across 5 companies over a single week (July 14 – July 18).

·      It was easy peasy to set up.

Here is what I learned:

·      The win: 2,423 free downloads of Surfing in Heaven (~14 cents per download)

·      The extra inning win: 758 Kindle Unlimited pages read (from almost zero)

·      The marketing win: of the 5 companies – there was a clear winner by far: Faithful Reads generated nearly 46% of all my downloads, at only about 5½ cents per reader. I have also seen a measurable uptick in the traffic on my website.

·      The ROI: while I did sell a few extra books (2) and Audible (2), not nearly enough to pay back the $342. However, IMHO it was worth the investment from a marketing standpoint after just 30 days.

Kudos to Thomas for promoting this as a way to restart your book sales engine. I now plan to do a second promotion in October ($163) with Faithful Reads and Freebooksy.
