Tax ID?

I’m just getting my feet wet with live events after my book release last month, and one has requested my tax ID/EIN. A quick online search said that’s only necessary if you’re registered as an LLC, but if you’re simply an individual you can just use your SSN. Can anyone speak to this to confirm or deny? :)
