Two delightful non-woke kids’ series
@Thomas Umstattd Jr. For sure James Hannibal’s Section 13 series; he’s a Christian author and I can vouch for the writing. Action packed, family-centric fantasy with a lot of whimsy. The second, I don’t remember having woke elements, but it’s been so long I’m not willing to give a 100% guarantee. But the author is Kevin Sands, and the first in the series is “The Blackthorn Key”. Historical series with a ton of period details, about a boy who is apprenticed as an alchemist in London. His master is murdered, and the boy decides to solve it. You get real alchemy recipes (with disclaimers), a thorough description of everyday life in London around the time of the Black Plague, and in the opening scene of book one, the main character uses alchemy and manages to blow something up. I remember it as unapologetically a boy book for boys. And also really well-written.
