Writers’ Group Post: Starting Eternal Flame – A Conservative, Christian Sci-Fi/Fantasy Journal

Hi everyone,

I’m dreaming of launching a new literary journal, Eternal Flame, to celebrate science fiction, fantasy, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry rooted in conservative Christian values—clean, family-friendly, and pro-Christian, even if subtly expressed. I love the imaginative worlds of sci-fi and fantasy (think C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy or Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings), but I’ve struggled to find magazines that align with my faith and ideals. Many publications today push agendas that feel “woke” or misaligned with conservative Christian principles, leaving little room for stories that uplift hope, redemption, and biblical truth.

My vision for Eternal Flame is a platform for both new and established writers to share stories, essays, and poems that reflect our values—whether it’s a starship crew finding faith, a knight’s quest for courage, or an essay on God’s plan. I want it to be welcoming to fresh voices and seasoned authors alike, fostering a community where we can inspire families, teens, and churches with content that’s safe and meaningful for all ages.

I’m seeking your advice:

•  Is this a worthwhile endeavor? Have you felt the same gap in the market for conservative, Christian sci-fi/fantasy? Would you read or contribute to Eternal Flame?

•  Should we start fresh or join existing efforts? I haven’t found journals that are both specific to our niche and open to new writers, but if there’s something out there (like a Christian speculative fiction magazine friendly to conservatives), I’d love to know.

•  Would you want to be involved? I’m open to collaborators—writers, editors, or anyone passionate about this vision. Whether it’s submitting a story, helping with editing, or shaping our mission, your input could make this shine.

•  What’s your experience? Have you started or worked with a journal? Any tips on launching one, from submissions to publishing? I’m all ears for practical advice or pitfalls to avoid.

I believe our community can make this work if we share our passion for faith-driven, family-friendly content. If you’ve seen magazines like Mysterion or know of publishers like Enclave Publishing, but felt they don’t quite fit, let’s talk about creating something truly ours. Drop your thoughts, ideas, or experiences below—I’m completely open to input and excited to hear from you. Let’s light this flame together!

Feel free to DM me or comment with your ideas.

Grace and peace,

Sean
