Homework #2 Why Buy My Books

My new book series is designed to enhance and integrate left and right brain activity, optimal for resilience and mental health. This historical children’s fiction series is unique in that it teaches social-emotional learning using real-life figures whose psychological theories still inform current child development understanding. In addition, it incorporates illustrations by three generations of artists from the same family, including the author, lending different life perspectives that appeal to all ages. These books are designed to be read by parents and children and to be used as a platform for family discussions about fun and complex topics. They are meant to enhance family bonds and child self-confidence. The books are interactive, and prompts are designed to encourage readers to express themselves with words, drawings, color expression, songs, or poems (the child chooses). This series is written by a social worker therapist (me) specializing in trauma treatment and certified in art therapy. I have a group therapy practice that sees adults, children, and adolescents, and I have two decades of experience and education. Mariel Hemingway, who wrote this book’s foreword and is the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, an author, and actress, is also a mental health advocate. Mariel speaks candidly about the difficulties in her childhood and how she used nature and mindfulness to cope. The narrative of the story that follows includes these themes (among many others) as coping tools. Mariel recently interviewed the author on her podcast, Out Comes the Sun. In addition, the second book in the series that touches gently on the anxieties about wa was translated into Ukrainian and distributed by CORE, the global humanitarian organization co-founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee. The Siemacha Association in Krakow, Poland also distributed it. The author (again, me!) recently did an art workshop and book signing with the children in Krakow, Poland, who had read her book. The children expressed gratitude and felt less alone reading about a child war survivor who became one of the most influential psychologists of all time (this part is true). The children’s artwork will appear in my third book “A Mouse Named Pigment in Chopin’s Piano: The Healing Power of Color and Sound. The children were thrilled that they would be included. If I can sell enough books, I plan to continue to include children’s voices and art in these books. Alfred Adler, who is a character in both books, began an educational movement that tragically shut down the Nazi regime. Ansbacher (1992) labeled Alfred Adler a “pioneer in the prevention of mental disorders” (p. 3). This author uses Adlerian theory to inform the messages in her books. She hopes to bring this pioneer out of the shadows of dusty academic books and create a new genre of children’s books that integrate history, psychology, art, and activities that stimulate both the creative and emotional right brain and the practical left brain. Real healing uses the integration of both.
