Homework #8: Email - Keven

I set up my WordPress website a month or two ago. After that, I researched and selected Mailer Lite as my email service. It was a little tricky integrating it with my website, especially on pop-ups. But in the end, I managed to set up newsletter sign up forms as well as a pop-up.

I’m starting at zero subscribers…so nowhere to go but up. I found that regular social media posts directing people to my website did not move the needle on signups.

A couple of weeks ago, I released a free short story (Reader Magnet) that is a mini prequel to my novel that’s coming out in July. I’m using Book Funnel to deliver the story. I used Digital 2 Digital to convert the story into a format that Book Funnel would accept, so there was some learning involved. So far, I’m happy with Book Funnel. I subscribed to the “Mid List Author” package with integrations for $150 per year. They have lower / cheaper levels, but they did not include everything you need for a Reader Magnet use case.

The short story Reader Magnet has been more effective in driving signups. I’m at 25 people on my email list and picking up a couple every day.
