Homework Day 1 - Joseph Brink

I’m a day behind haha, but here’s my homework so far!

Since I write Middle-Grade, I have to be conscious of both the kids I’m marketing to and their parents (the gatekeepers).

I think my books fall in all three categories, but they primarily fall into the category of Entertainment (with Escape as a close second).

When I’m thinking about why a kid would want to read my books, it would definitely be for Entertainment and Escape, but when I think about why a parent would want their kids to read my books, I would lean more on the Education side (if that makes any sense).

Kid-oriented answer to why someone should read my book:

My book is delightfully thrilling while also providing an escape into a magical, old-fashioned town where kids have more responsibility and anything is possible.

Parent-oriented answer to why someone should read my book:

My book will grip your kids and capture their imaginations while giving them courage for facing the scary things in their own lives.

To make more time for this course, I’m setting aside some of my school homework for now. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot I can set aside for this course, so I will probably end up falling behind.
