Good morning, everyone!

Here’s the old newsletter, followed by the new one. Wow, is it so much more interesting. I definitely felt like I was trying so hard to “be professional” it lost all interest. But any feedback would be great.

Old:

Dear Reader,

I have an April update for you on the upcoming Eagleboy book--The Eagleboy Exploits: Mutant House--as well as a book review with a lot of middle school drama and an emphasis on family, so keep reading!

I received my Mutant House book back from the editor and was given great feedback. But that means making a few changes. It's just another step in the process of creating an amazing book. While I don't love changing my writing, I'm excited to get the edits done and move forward to the next step in publishing.

If you can't wait for Mutant House to be published and haven't downloaded my short story yet, I'd recommend stopping by my bookfunnel page and checking out The Eagleboy Exploits: Clark Sees Red while you wait. The short story is free to download and introduces you to the superhero Eagleboy and the other characters in the Eagleboy World.

Now for this month's book recommendation! Merci Suarez, the heroine of Meg Medina's 2019 Newberry Award Winning book Merci Suarez Changes Gears, is also facing some changes.

Merci is not ready for changing classes in middle school, being a "Sunshine Buddy" to a new student, or finding out the truth behind her Abuelo's growing forgetfulness. But not all changes can be avoided and learning how to handle them is part of growing up. To find out if you or your reader is ready for the middle school drama in this book, check out the full review on my website.

If you are enjoying these book reviews, let me know!

Happy Reading!

Heading: Can’t Everything Stay the Same?

 Hey Reader!

Do you struggle with change as much as I do?

We know for our kids to mature into faith-filled adults, they need to grow past their familiar, yet less-than-ideal ways. (Looking at you, poking fights!) But when it comes to us? Change? No thanks!

After years of writing The Great Friend Feud, Eagleboy’s first novel, I sent it to an editor, and despite a glowing review, she sent back a list of..yep, you guessed it…changes.

But when we are asked to tiptoe into something new (or revise something that is obviously already amazing 😉), we have to trust. Just like how we ask our kids trust us to teach them the changes needed to navigate their increasingly independent world.

It helps me to remember that God’s got us and we can trust Him. I love Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him…” Next time you (or your kids) are scared to change, I hope you are remember that, sure, change can be scary, but God is working for your good!

If this email encouraged you, feel free to share it with a friend!

  • The protagonist of this month’s book recommendation, Merci Suarez Changes Gears by Meg Medina, is also struggling with changes. To see if it is the next “perfect” book for your family or your kids, check out the review on my website.

 Happy Reading!

Back Cover Copy for The Eagleboy Exploits: The Great Friend Feud

Clark Keane, sixth grade superhero Eagleboy, would do anything for his friends Murphy, Jackson, and Louis. Climb a way-too-high rickety treehouse? Sure. Create a superhero alter ego for Murphy instead of studying for finals? No question. Brave the grumpy neighbor’s Mutant House in the dark to find Murphy’s lost ball? Well…if he has to.

So when Murphy accuses Clark of being a bad friend because of one teensy joke, Clark is outraged. Shots fire, balls fly, and friends pick sides. No treehouse is safe from the feud. But friendship might not be the only thing in danger. Strange things have begun to happen on Maple Street. A monster has awoken—and, of course it’s all Murphy’s fault! Clark must transform into Eagleboy—fearless, free, Savior of the Skies—to protect the neighborhood from his friend’s mistakes. But when a new hero, Murphdog, lassos his way on the scene, Clark can’t help but wonder if he is more ally or enemy.

Will Clark find a way to fix his friendships and work with Murphdog to save the day? Or is the Savior of the Skies better off flying solo? Find out in the newest Eagleboy novel, The Eagleboy Exploits: The Great Friend Feud!

I want to rewrite my ‘About Me’, but I’ve got to work with it a bit. I’m going to post this anyway. Any feedback is welcome on how to improve!
