Session 3 HW – Dennis Conrad: Being Tech Savvy
Fiddle with your phone’s settings for 10 minutes.
What feature did you find that most delighted you?
● Emergency SOS: This is the iPhone feature that once turned on will detect accidents and such. It will connect a person with emergency services should her or she fall or have an auto accident. There is also a feature whereby holding down two buttons at the same time will call for help.
What is your biggest technical fear?
● My biggest fear is that I would not be able to recover files, including the files of my edited books. I have some material that dates back to the late 1980s when I got my first IBM XT with a 20 MB Hard Drive. It cost about $3,500. Yikes! I am dating myself. I do remember a time when I did not have a desktop or laptop computer. Yet, owning and using computers for all these years, for me, is like we’ve always had them.
I agree: Writing down the fear, has made it less scary.
Which method or methods do you plan to use to manage it?
● I have Backblaze that I installed a few years ago while taking BLB.
● I have a Seagate back-up drive that automatically saves my files.
What about technology are you grateful for?
I am grateful the following (which is only a partial list):
● I can write, edit, and print the stories that have become books.
● I have ProWritingAid…which helps with spelling and grammar.
● For my webmaster and all he is able to do…
● I have learned a lot about how to update and keep my website current.
● For my iPhone because I can send and receive emails and texts, set alarms, and more.
● I like the many apps on my iPhone: YouVersion Bible, Music, Pomodoro, Starbucks, Uber, and more.
● For my iWatch – It shows my heart rate and other details about my walks.
● I can talk on my iWatch.
● For my printer, scanner , and other features.
● I like having the internet to be able to retrieve information.
I like having an Smart TV...I can stream training content and movies.
Which backup solutions do you use?
● I have Backblaze
● I also have Seagate.
Which password management system do you use?
This homework gave me peace of mind: It is comforting to know that I have systems in place in case of emergencies.
