Day 2 Homework

I’m consolidating most of my answers to the various questions here.

  • My strengths / promises I make to the reader. My books contain:

    • Hard worldbuilding and magic systems

    • Characters that are likable, sympathetic, well-developed, and who change over the course of the book

    • Fantasies with fun adventures and intriguing mysteries

    • Romantic subplots (sometimes)

    • PG-13 levels of content, no more.

  • My books do NOT contain / readers who like these things should look elsewhere:

    • Graphic sex / violence / heavy language

    • Hot button societal topics / heavy sociological commentary. While my books do have themes and may brush on some of these topics, it won’t be like the main point of the book. My writing tends to be lighter in tone.

    • “Pretty prose”. I write for people who don’t want to read (or are indifferent to) literary fiction / flowery prose.

  • My unique skills / unfair advantages:

    • I am a chemical and biomolecular engineer, which gives me a lot of scientific background to use when constructing my own worlds, magic systems, etc.

  • My target reader:

    • Likes Brandon Sanderson and Tolkien

    • Wants clean fantasy that’s not pushing an ideological agenda

    • Wants all the stuff in my “promises” list

    • Fits most closely in the Escape category, though the line between Escape and Entertainment can be a bit blurry.
