Day #3 - From Tech Timid to Tech Savvy - Sue Shigemitsu
1. Fiddle with your phone’s settings for 10 minutes.
What feature did you find that most delighted you?
● I discovered that I enjoy experimenting with ringtones on my phone for calls, texts, and notifications (and how to turn off the notifications).
2. What is your biggest technical fear?
● My biggest technological fear is pressing the wrong button or learning the wrong technique despite having a better way (yes, it's silly, especially for one who is tech savvy at some level).
3. Which method or methods do you plan to use to manage it?
● To overcome this, I chose to embrace that fear and with that remind myself that if there is a better/effect way of doing things, just do it because it will become another tool for me in the long run.
4. What about technology are you grateful for?
● I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to learn how to use computers in the past and work with them during employment.
● I am grateful for those who are helpful (and generous) in sharing with me how to effectively use their knowledge of technology.
● I am thankful that I am able to purchase a new computer at an affordable price--especially when things are getting expensive.
● I am thankful that I have people I can share my knowledge of technology, which teaches me to be more effective in putting that knowledge to use.
5. Which backup solutions do you use?
● My usual backup solution is using an external hard drive. It’s funny how I have not used Google Drive, but since I have more experience using it at work, perhaps it’s a good time to start.
6. Which password management system do you use?
● Using an encrypted password manager is something I have heard of, but never tried (I used the usual “password in a notebook” technique). I am looking into 1Password to change that.
