Homework #10 (Magic School Story)

This was a more challenging homework exercise for me. I haven’t bitten the bullet yet to get Publisher Rocket, and I probably just need to do so in order to complete this exercise well, but here’s what I have so far for my magic school novel:

Categories: Epic Fantasy and Coming of Age Fantasy

Keywords: Dark academia, magic school, Christian fantasy, non-European fantasy, original magic system, adult Christian fantasy, secondary world fantasy

The two biggest challenges I’ve run into while putting this together are:

• Whether I should be using “clean fantasy” keywords. While the novel doesn’t have language/sex depicted in it, it does deal with sexual harassment/abuse. While that’s off-screen, I’m not sure if that’s the kind of themes people searching for these keywords are looking for.

• The second category after Epic Fantasy. I put Coming of Age above since it deals with a traditional YA setting—but it’s an adult take on the YA setting, so that doesn’t quite fit as well as I’d like it to. I also considered Dark Fantasy, but I’m not sure it’s dark enough to fit (even if it deals with some more sensitive themes).

Feeling very much like an amateur in this arena, so I’m open to any & all suggestions on this front!
