Homework #12 - How to Have a Wildly Successful Launch Day - Sue Shigemitsu

  1. Share two or three of what you think are the strongest elements of your launch day campaign.

  • With my first book launch event, it was mainly me and my parents who planned it. We held it at a local community centre where there were few attendees despite the announcements I made to the community a month or so before the event. I think the strongest element for me that time was connections. Being a brand-new author with close to no fans (except a couple of friends who actually read the book and immediate family members who supported me), a handful of people who came and actually bought my book and helped with my launch event (I did not even have a launch team other than those who volunteered and helped out with the event consisting of friends and family).

  • The other strongest elements for my (past) launch day campaign was announcing on social media (Facebook and Instagram) by creating my own advert and posting it on social media with a link to Amazon or announce the event about to be held. I used the same ad as the one distributed in the community (with their permission, of course).

  1. Ask for feedback on ideas you’re not sure about.

  • As I prepare for another (better) book launch with my upcoming book (which is a year or two in advance). I was thinking of making several images for Instagram about my book, or upload videos for Instagram stories.

  • For those who have created book trailers for their books on social media, what did you use for your images? ChatGPT? Stock images on the internet? No images, just short phrases on a colour themed background? Please advise. Thank you!

  1. Share your drip campaign with the group.

  • I obviously do not understand what drip campaign is, since I have yet to publish another book to put this technique to use. My initial idea was to put social media posts intermittently over the month counting down the days to the launch event with something about the new book (trivia, artwork, quotation, etc..)
