Homework #12 (Magic School Story)

Launch Day Elements

  • I plan on doing an online launch party (likely via Instagram Live), where I’ll announce some final bonus for anyone who attends the launch party and purchases the book (or has purchased it) by the end of the day. I’ve run a lot of webinars for work with similar kinds of live attendee bonuses, so I feel pretty good about my ability to run this effectively. I may also do giveaways during the launch party for other magic school novels I’ve enjoyed.

  • On social media, throughout the launch window (including launch day), I plan on sharing different stories (whether on video or over posts) about what life as a teacher is really like, and debunking common teacher myths.

What I’m Unsure About

I liked Jim’s thoughts on highlighting reviews from launch team members, but that doesn’t quite fit with Thomas Umstattd’s recommended method for running a launch team. I’m curious to hear more from Jim about the different approaches he and Thomas take here.

Drip Campaign

I plan on doing daily emails throughout the two-week launch period following the book’s release (which is when the launch bonuses will end). Some of the emails I’m thinking of sending out include:

  • Launch day email & launch party reminder

  • Sharing more about where the idea of the novel came from

  • Various stories from my teaching days that can lead into a novel pitch

  • Highlighting the launch bonuses

  • Highlighting/teasing the themes of the book

  • Magic system spotlight

  • Sneak peek of a scene from the novel

  • Spotlight of the different illustrations in the book

  • Spotlight of endorsements I receive

  • Spotlight of different reviews readers have left

  • Deadline reminders as the launch period ends
