HW#2 Ted Atchley

I’m following the template of RJ and @Wam Sutta. Thank you for helping organize this.

Strengths/authority:

I’m really good with technology and computers. There’s nothing I can’t figure out. I’ve been told my action sequences are quite strong.

I’ve always had a high level of empathy. I hear about something happening to someone, and I feel it.

I’ve always been on the “outside looking in” (but not in a creepy way). It gives me great empathy and understanding for the misfits, the broken, the insecure, the inadequate, the awkward.

Why readers pass me over: Maybe they simply haven’t heard of me, and therefore don’t trust I can deliver. Specific to my debut novel, the sci-fi elements aren’t as strong in the beginning, leading one reviewer to say, “I don’t see how it’s sci-fi.”

Target reader: Christian, interesting speculative franchises like Star Wars/Marvel, but unhappy with the recent direction of those franchises.

My Tribe:. The misfits, the Not-Quites, the Never-Get-It-Rights. They deal with feeling insecure, inadequate, awkward. They say things to themselves like, “Everything I touch gets ruined.” “I’ll never be enough.” “I’ll never measure up.”

What friends said about me: “a geek in love with Jesus”, “the Commish”, “dependable”, “steady”, “reliable”, “kind”, “great with kids”

Quirky/weird about me: I am drawn to uniqueness. If everyone is doing something one way, I want to do it differently. When I was kid, at a restaurant, if someone ordered something I was going to order, I would change my order because I wanted to be different.

Shocking Broca: Since I have found my identity and validation in my relationship with Christ, I can be my gloriously weird self.
