Tech Savvy — Day #3 Homework

Homework: Fiddle with your phone’s settings for 10 minutes.

What feature did you find that most delighted you?

●      I found this great app on my iPhone. It’s called “do not disturb.” With this feature, I can block out everything else—calls, apps, text—so that I can concentrate on what I’m doing.

Homework: What is your biggest technical fear?

●      Starting to use a new application or service. Fear of Change?

Homework: Which method or methods do you plan to use to manage it?

●       Focus on the power – There’s a reason why I decided to use a new app or service. Now that I’ve picked a tool for the job, pressing the button will open new possibilities for me.

●      Switch Fears—I replace the fear of technology with the fear of wasting my time putting off the benefits. In almost every case, I’m in a better position after mastering the app or service, and I realize that the worry or fear that I experienced was unfounded. I kick myself for putting it off.

Homework: What about technology are you grateful for?

●      I’m thankful that I have a computer I can carry around (my iPhone) that performs basic daily tasks (I use it to make calls, text people, schedule appts, read email, read books, play games, work my to-do list, count calories, keep track of time, and otherwise trade information.

●      I’m thankful for my desktop computer and all my apps where I write  books, search the internet, connect to Amazon, collect and store information, keep track of friends on social media, manage our personal and business budgets, etc.

●      I’m thankful for my iPad, which I use for rock band rehearsals and music study, and some performances.

●      There are more things, like my car, my coffee maker, our blender, our refrigerator and deep freeze, and our TV.

Homework: Which backup solutions do you use?

●       BackBlaze

●      Dropbox

Which password management system do you use?

●       Dashlane
